Open In Prayer

Begin by praying together – taking some intentional time to breathe, be still, and invite the Holy Spirit to be with you all as you set aside time to be together.

Below is an excerpt of Psalm 133 you could pray:

Let How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity! Yes, taht is where God commands blessing and ordains eternal life. Let it be true with us, Lord. Unite Your people so that the world may know that You love them. Amen.

Around The Table & Reflect On Last Gathering’s Practice

This is space during your gathering to share a meal, build relationships, and enjoy one another.

  • What’s one way you’re seeing God move in your life right now?

Read This Aloud Together

This month, we closed out our series, What is a Christian? Rediscovering the Faith We Didn't Invent as a church. We are going to finish exploration of the Nicene Creed within our Ethos Communities as we explore the last line that reads:

Read This Portion of The Nicene Creed Aloud Together

We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

(Leader Note: Revelation 21:1-4 is a great passage of Scripture that aligns with the video, if your Community is looking to read more Scripture together.)

Discussion Questions

  • What parts of creation feel closest to God’s beauty and presence to you?

  • Where do you most long for restoration in your own life or in the world?

  • What other questions do you have as it relates to death, heaven, and new creation?

Discussion Questions

  • What do you understand the goal of the Christian life to be?

    • Do you usually think of Christianity more as “going to heaven” or becoming part of a new humanity? Why?

  • What are the dangers of separating “spiritual” life from physical, embodied life?

  • The Bible frames salvation not just individually, but as the creation of a whole new people. Where have you seen glimpses of “new creation” or a community fully living as the “new humanity” in real life?

  • Where do you most feel the tension between the “old humanity” and the “new humanity” in your own life?

Practice: Simple Next Step

What is one small, simple way you feel invited to live differently this week as part of Jesus’ “new humanity”?

Whatever is your answer to that question…actually do that!

You may find it helpful to share what you’re committing to practicing with someone in your Ethos Community who can help hold you accountable and vice versa.

End in Prayer

Before you conclude, spend some time as a Community praying for one another.

Below is an optional liturgy you could pray:

Lord Jesus, There is no greater prayer than yours — make us one as you are one, in devotion, in living, in love. Amen.
