November - Week Two

Open In Prayer

Begin by praying together – taking some intentional time to invite the Holy Spirit into your gathering.

Below is an optional liturgy you could pray:

Help us, Father, to be real with each other, to be real about what it means to be one body, and to stay in persevering love with one another as we pursue Your presence, Your kingdom, Your love. Amen.

Table Conversations

This is space during your gathering to share a meal, build relationships, and enjoy one another.

  • If your week were a candle, is the flame burning bright, low, or somewhere in between? Why?

Learning: Reflect & Discuss Sabbath

  1. As you engaged in the practice of sabbath (including fixed-hour prayer and enjoying God), where did you feel resistance?

  1. Where did you experience delight and/or experience God’s nearness?

  1. The next two months are typically fuller due to the holidays. How do you plan to adjust your sabbath practice in response to a potentially busier schedule?

  1. How can we continue to practice sabbathing together as a community? How does a sustainable sabbath rhythm look different for each of us due to our different seasons of life etc?

  1. As you conclude, spend some time as a Community praying out loud for one another. Consider breaking up into smaller groups and sharing prayer requests.

Practice: Sabbath - Fixed-Hour Prayer & Enjoying God

Refer to the Companion Guide for all of the specific details of the practices.

  1. Practice a light and life-giving version of what the ancients called “fixed-hour prayer.”

    1. All this means is you pause two to three times during your 24-hour sabbath to pray.

  1. Identify two to three practices by which you enjoy God and do them.

[If you are looking for ways to go deeper, the Practicing The Way: Sabbath Companion Guide offers optional “reach practices”. Overachievers in the room: there is not an expectation to complete the reach practices, these are simply available for those who have the interest and capacity.]

Reminder: November Accountability Partner

For November, identify a partner within your Ethos Community that shares your same gender. This should be someone different than you were just paired with for October!

Your role as accountability partners is to do the following:

  1. Schedule a time to hang one-on-one in person with your accountability partner during the month of November. Consider inviting each other into the lives you’re already living instead of having to create extra margin (ie: meal prep together, walk the dog together, run errands together).

  2. Encourage one another as you lean into the practices via text etc! :)
